Tan, Amy (1952–) A Chinese-American novelist who lives in San Francisco, Amy Ruth Tan was born in Oakland, California after her parents emigrated to the US. She was educated at San José State University, California (BA 1973, MA 1974), and in Switzerland, and has subsequently worked as an administrator of programmes for disabled children, a reporter and an editor.
