ABSTRACT

Arthur Danto's writings have encompassed both professional philosophical tracts and more broadly addressed art critical writing, most notably as the resident critic for The Nation since 1984, a post in which he follows venerable critics such as Lawrence Alloway and Clement Greenberg. Both his philosophy and his art criticism have been markedly influenced by his readings of Wittgenstein and Hegel; in contrast with most other Anglo-American philosophers, his interests have also extended to figures such as Sartre and Nietzsche.
