Having discovered the sea, and the two men being fearfid of falling into the hands of the Spaniards, Father Hennepin^ after erecting a cross of ten or twelve feet in height, to which he fastened a letter with their names, and a succinct account of their voyage, and having upon their knees sung some hymns, they set out upon their return.
