ABSTRACT

Marx’s work offers an alternative to that of Weber. Marx’s alternative seems to have

much in common with a feminist alternative; his critique in some ways resembles a

feminist critique. In this chapter I explore the relationship between Marx’s thinking and

feminist thinking. I do this by re-examining Marx’s thought in relation to Weber’s. I focus

on the gendered nature of both Marx’s thought and Weber’s. Although the thought of

both of them is flawed by a patriarchal masculine bias, nevertheless each of them in different ways has a complex and interesting relationship to feminist thinking.
