ABSTRACT

Specimens of solid epoxy electrical insulation were subjected to an accelerated voltage life test at 52.5 kV [1]. The 19 failure times (min) and the one underlined censored (suspended) time at the termination of the testing are presented in Table 25.1. Although no rigorous experimental evidence has ever been presented, a simple Weibull probability distribution is commonly employed to represent the variability in both the failure times and voltages of solid electrical insulation failures [2]. It was suggested that the use of the two-parameter Weibull model be explored, and if necessary, the three-parameter Weibull model, since a failure-free time period is expected [1].
