ABSTRACT

The accuracy of a geological and geomechanical model is a key factor in the implementation of infrastructure projects and in particular, for underground infrastructures. The reduction of risks and optimization of costs are highly influenced by the quality of the geological model. The role of geologist in the construction phase is to collect and interpret field data, and to validate the hypothesis assumed during the design phase. A digital GIS-based method has been developed to facilitate the interpretation of data. GIS models consist of a geodatabase in which the individual items can be inspected, either visually in a 3D model or in tables. A tablet PC is used to digitally collect soil information. Data are then automatically integrated into the model. A PDV (Parallel Data Viewer) graph, parallel to the excavation axis, allows one to automatically plot and control data associated with the excavation, such as geomechanical parameters, etc.
