This chapter introduces a workflow for producing intelligent content using Lightweight DITA (LwDITA). The workflow is based on a series of layers of abstraction that include developing a content strategy, authoring modular content with LwDITA, separating content from design and context, linking topics and maps for collection and reuse, processing and producing deliverables, and preparing for the future. Through the running scenario of a soda fountain that needs a manual for its operators, this chapter includes samples in the initial LwDITA authoring formats, which are based on the Extensible Markup Language (XML), the Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), and Markdown. This chapter also uses the soda fountain scenario to introduce content variables and filters for conditional processing.
