ABSTRACT

If the people are considering the adoption of an accident prevention plan, they should probably give thought to the following issues: Responsibility, Training, Communication, Compliance, Inspections, Corrective measures and Recordkeeping. The accident prevention plan must provide a two-way street for communication; that is, management and employees must both have access to and be encouraged to use the communication system. All employees, from the top of the organization to the bottom, must understand that the company is serious in its intent to ensure compliance with its accident prevention plan. It may be desirable to incorporate disciplinary provisions into the compliance portion of the accident prevention plan. The company's accident prevention plan should include provisions regarding safety and health inspections. The only sure-fire method to prove that the company's accident prevention plan has been effectively implemented is to record the activities.
