ABSTRACT

Pete shared a gripping story of personal accountability and what it takes for any team to win Olympic gold. Pete said, “The best example I can come up with is the 2000 Olympics and what came from that experience, brutal as it was. We had been undefeated in the Olympic cycle leading up to the 2000 games in Sydney. We were the heavy favorite to win gold. In the medal race, we came in fifth. Not only did we not win gold, we didn’t medal at all. It was just an awful experience for everybody who went through it because for some of those athletes, that was their last go. They would be too old to do it again four years later.”
