ABSTRACT

This chapter summarizes the groundrules which have surfaced to date for transnational partnerships, identifies the principal guidelines for managing such a collaboration throughout the actual development of a project, and discusses the longer-term implications for macroproject development based on management techniques as they are understood. Project participants' experiences in transnational and transcorporate collaboration might be described as in the experimental stages. Projects meriting enormous investments should not hesitate to enlist the assistance of professionals in determining the most appropriate guidelines for that specific project. Some stakeholders are in support of the progress the project will bring — these might include the contractors, suppliers, and local government. Major innovations in negotiation and conflict resolution capabilities and project management systems remain to be realized. Whether management expertise has been developed to a level of competence adequate enough to meet the requirements of future projects remains the critical question.
