ABSTRACT

Children can take ownership of sessions by helping to plan the content. There can be a class notice board (circular?) where post-its may be stuck detailing incidents or ideas that could be dealt with in circle time. They are also wonderfully creative at adapting games and activities: their suggestions are often better than your own. Circle time also provides a point of reference for dealing with issues relating to the class as a whole: ‘do you remember when . . . what did people suggest . . . how did they feel?’ Books to develop circle time are numerous: see resources section.
