ABSTRACT

This chapter shows that prospective and practicing clinical supervisors to several of their administrative tasks. In addition, the effective management of administrative tasks helps to protect the professional interests of supervisors and supervisees. Inevitably and necessarily, supervisors evaluate their supervisees. The emphasis on this as an administrative task comes as another reminder of its importance. Clinical supervision meetings invest primarily in “covering” clinical cases. Insofar as many supervisees need endorsement of their candidacy for licensing or certification, supervision sessions should give attention to the supervisee’s progress toward meeting the requirements for licensing or certification. Clinical supervisors protect the integrity of supervision sessions. Clinical supervisors maintain a focus on the professional goals of supervisees. Based on their own leadership and autonomy, the effectiveness of clinical supervisors may be appropriately assessed through an examination of how well they manage the administrative tasks that inhere in clinical supervision.
