ABSTRACT

Chapter 12 explains the administrative theory of Facilitative Coordination. The relational dialectic between hierarchical and matrix organization structures is resolved through the creation of responsive networks. The process dialectic that focuses on the relative strength of administrative discretion is resolved through integrative collaboration, which utilizes situational authority and emergent leadership to assign roles. The method of integration is applied to administrative decision making, coordination of efforts, and evaluation of outcomes. Facilitative Coordination is an administrative approach that engages all group members in various domains of functional authority.
