ABSTRACT

This chapter summarizes reports from Vietnamese educators on progress made since the Social Work Education Enhancement Program (SWEEP) project and the ability of faculty to improve teaching skills and social work scholarship. The thoughts of key informants on the adaptation of Western social work curriculum and values are also important to address, since the country has been exposed to various international models of social work and social work education for over a decade. The chapter discusses the challenges and lessons learned from the viewpoint of Vietnamese leaders and faculty, as they continue to implement social work educational programs. Themes related to the impact of SWEEP emerged in several areas. First, participants described the general influence of SWEEP and its impact on skills, planning activities, and working relationships. Second, participants described the impact on the leadership group and improved collaboration through expansion of the leadership group, implementation of training and regional events, and alignment with international standards.
