ABSTRACT

Chapter 6 examines the Cecil the Lion case study, where users turned to Yelp to protest the hunt of a beloved Zimbabwe lion by a Minnesota Dentist. The chapter introduces how activists use TPRS to address and attempt to build attention to critical issues. The chapter turns to a case study of Glassdoor, a site dedicated to employees providing reviews of employers. The site is also a space where former employees can share insider information anonymously, meant to solicit organizational policy and behavior changes. Further, Glassdoor provides reviews of members of Congress, international governmental agencies, and local governments. The chapter applies the theory of “collective action” to examples where members of the public and former employees have gathered on TPRS to advocate for policy changes.
