ABSTRACT
Long before the terrorist acts of 11 September 2001, Africa has had to grapple with international terrorism. On 7 August 1998, more than 250 innocent civilians were killed in the twin bombings of the African embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. In my view, at the time, the international community demonstrated little empathy for those who died and were injured in those attacks. The attacks in Kenya and Tanzania were so horrendous that war had to be declared against the perpetrators of those heinous acts. Even the ensuing investigations and trial of those arrested for those crimes received very little attention in the world press.
