ABSTRACT

Afundamental aspect of ancient Egyptian religion was a belief in the afterlife(Ikram 2003). This belief was a basic component of religion from the Predynastic to the Roman Period. The Egyptians’ vision of the afterlife, however, evolved throughout their history. As there are no surviving religious texts that outline the earliest beliefs of the hereafter, much of our reconstruction of these belief systems comes through archaeological material, and is also extrapolated from textual and physical evidence deriving primarily from the New Kingdom.
