ABSTRACT

As this book was proceeding to publication, Donald J. Trump was elected the 45th President of the United States. At the time of writing, the world is engaged in a mad scramble to decipher the implications of this victory that few believed was possible. Chief amongst these groups are climate advocates, who are rightly concerned that a Trump presidency could be a devastating blow to the major gains achieved over the preceding eight years. Indeed, though Trump once held favourable views on climate action prior to entering politics, he subsequently adopted a staunch reactionary position while on the campaign trail. In addition to adamantly denying the science of anthropogenic climate change, Trump vowed to get rid of the Obama administration's Clean Power Plan, remove the US from the Paris climate agreement, get rid of the EPA, and restore the US coal industry to its former glory.
