ABSTRACT
Between 1975 and 1981 a lorry driver named Peter Sutcliffe murdered thirteen women and attacked at least seven more mainly in the Leeds/Bradford areas of northern England. Some of these women were prostitutes. Despite six years of police investigations Sutcliffe was arrested by chance when two officers on routine patrol in Sheffield noticed his car had illegal number plates and stopped him for questioning.
