ABSTRACT

The preparation/broadcast/follow-up technique or the broadcast/follow-up technique was used by the vast majority of teachers, and this did not differ significantly between teachers who had access to video recorders and those who did not. Nevertheless, there will be some teachers who will not have access to video recorders, as apart from the schools which do not have recorders, there are some large junior mixed and infant schools which only possess one machine and this may not be available to all the teachers who require it. Although research suggests that most teachers were using off-air broadcasts without relating this to other work in the classroom, there were exceptions. There was a very small group of teachers in the survey who were consciously integrating into the curriculum and using off-air broadcasts effectively. It is not a teacher replacement, but a multi-media, audio-visual aid for the teacher's use, viewing should be a shared experience so that the teacher can gauge the children's responses.
