ABSTRACT

There is a preponderant body of literature regarding contributions of Mission and Pentecostal Churches and their social transformation activities, while little attention is paid to the social contributions of Aladura Churches as part of the movement of African Initiated Churches (AICs) in Nigeria. Therefore, this chapter examines the contributions made by Aladura Churches towards social transformation activities in South-West Nigeria. It outlines social transformation activities that Aladura Churches are engaged in. It uses extracts of interviews and focus group discussions conducted with leaders of various AICs conducted in Nigeria in October 2017. The work finds that Aladura Churches are actively involved in social transformation activities that improve the lives of individuals and society in Nigeria. Moreover, it reveals that the church activities transcend the spirituality tag, as they contribute immensely to social transformation for human development.
