ABSTRACT
In order to unset the alarm system protecting Royal Mail and Post Office Counters' sites, users must enter a 4 digit PIN (Personal Identification Number) within a fixed period of time (usually about 30 seconds). If they fail to enter the PIN within three attempts, or they exceed the fixed period of time, the alarm activates. The incidence of false alarms is a small but significant problem.
