ABSTRACT

This chapter is based is part of a process of deconstruction of the “model” existing in Algeria which is articulated around the centrality of control of material and symbolic resources resulting from the functioning of two systemic rents: energy and political. However, looking at the operating conditions of this rentier pact, which had provided the political regime in place with relative stability, it is clear that it was doomed from the start. First, because of an exhaustion of the positive effects of its components, both of which are engaged in a race against time. Secondly, because of the emergence of a deep social unease, which is particularly acute among young people. This provided the conditions for the social movement in progress in Algeria since mid-February 2019.
