ABSTRACT

The new interdisciplinary paradigm of Âintelligent citiesÊ or Âsmart citiesÊ – bringing together theories, methodologies, and practices from diverse fields, such as urban development, strategic planning, Web and Internet technologies, knowledge and innovation management – is overturning established urban development and planning practices. The impact of this paradigm reaches far beyond the domain of cities as it influences the challenges of global competitiveness, sustainability and climate change, employment and inclusion.
