ABSTRACT

Public school became the most popular education option in the latter half of the 20th century. However, homeschooling is an alternative choice of education that emerged in the United States of America in the 1960s and soon gained attention from other countries. Although it is difficult to give one solid definition of homeschooling, the common element is that homeschooling involves extensive parental involvement for decisions in teaching and learning. This chapter examines homeschooling as an example of wider opportunities of education in school education systems in the world, but the chapter focuses more on the cases and history in the USA, where the growth of homeschooling is clear. The future of homeschooling could be even more interesting in the current age of technology and innovations.
