ABSTRACT

Glynn Isaac’s review (Isaac 1983b) of Bones: Ancient Men and Modern Myths (Binford 1981a) is in many ways a fair descriptive presentation of the contents of the book. However, he has brought to his reading certain expectations, and it was in terms of these expectations that he critically evaluated some sections of my work. I believe that his expectations were mistaken, that they have misguided his criticism, and that his review distorted the intent of my work in important ways.
