ABSTRACT

As pointed out in Chapter 2, until a feasible outline of the type of analysis to be undertaken has been determined, the research plan must be considered incomplete. Many students are tempted to embark on literature searches and massive programmes of data gathering before thinking about how the results are to be analysed. All too often this leads to considerable wasted effort. Essential items of data are not collected, or the first attempts at analysis are too trivial so that a complete rethink is necessary.
