ABSTRACT
By the end of this section, I hope readers who are new to all this have some idea of the sort of leadership ‘persona’ they have already, or at least have worked out what they are not! I hope too that you have picked up that, although not everything about different leadership theories is worthless, it pays to cherry-pick the insights that help you understand yourself better. Above all, I hope to have convinced you that the sort of leaders the 21st century needs will be thinking more deeply about what the leadership is for (sustainable development) and about the interconnectedness of both the problems and the solutions involved. Perhaps you have started to use the wiring diagram on page 92 to build up your current sustainability-literate leadership persona, ready to complete the job as you read through the rest of this book. If not, I hope you have created a similar framework for yourself, not only to bring together your knowledge and understanding as you progress, but also as a habit to keep yourself on a lifelong learning journey.
