ABSTRACT
In his essay “Mind and Earth,” Jung commences by explaining that, in the Chinese animistic doctrine, there is a shen-soul of the sky and a kwei-soul of the earth. Since, Jung continues, we Westerners know nothing of the substance of the soul, we must content ourselves with speaking of only two of its apparent aspects.
