ABSTRACT

On a scale of 1–10, where 1 is very uncomfortable and 10 is perfectly comfortable, how do you feel about apologising and repairing conversational ‘gaffes’ and how do you cope if someone makes a conversational blunder against you? This could be something such as calling you the wrong name. How easy is this skill with the following types of people:

• family members?

• one close friend?

• a group of friends?

• a new person in a formal situation such as an interview?
