ABSTRACT

The stress and strain equilibrium state is changed during the excavation and construction of the tunnel. Thus, the introduction of advanced sensing technologies such as fiber optic fiber sensing technology into the tunnel construction monitoring is of great significance for ensuring the safety and speed of the project. This paper developed an inclinometer based on the fiber Bragg grating sensing technology to monitor the dis-placement and deformation induced by tunnel excavation. Besides, a laboratory model test was performed to validate the applicability of the inclinometer. The results showed that the horizontal displacement of the soil on both sides of the tunnel during the excavation of the tunnel is symmetrically distributed up and down along the centerline of the tunnel cross-section. Besides, tunnel excavation will lead to the hysteresis of the settlement of the soil layer on the roof of the tunnel.
