ABSTRACT

The purpose of application groups is to explore the potential relevance of conference learning to normal working situations. Application groups are therefore composed of those doing the same or similar jobs in their ordinary work. In contrast to study groups, application groups are as homogeneous as possible. The primary task of application groups is to consider the application of conference learning to members' normal work. Application groups are thus a major part of the conference 'export' process. Application groups, as part of the export process, have to provide an opportunity to deal with the mixture of depression, elation, and anxiety that accompanies the loss of what have become valued human experiences. Application groups would then be less concerned with case material produced by members, and the emphasis would be on conference ending. The task of consultant to an application group is defined as assisting members to relate conference learning to their normal work.
