ABSTRACT

This chapter presents illustrations of how to apply and verify immersive communication models, drawing on the history of communication development and real-world media. There are at least two dimensions to investigate in the application of the immersive communication models: the technical dimension and the communication dimension. The Internet of Things, the technology that immersive communication leans on, plays a key role in its communication effects. The degree of immersion is reflected in the intersection point on the immersive communication matrix diagram, from low to high, representing the improvement of communication technology and communication capabilities. The immersive communication model also helps clarify the differences and boundary lines of the three media ages. The first media age is exemplified by lobby leaflets and unidirectional transmission. The second media age is demonstrated by elevator television and focus awareness. The third media age features panoramic monitoring and personalized service.
