ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the various pedagogical lenses for cultivating the workforce of the future. A number of healthcare leaders around the world are searching for expertise that represents the different types of diversity represented among customers, constituents, or populations. Nursing faculty and educators have recommended a number of initiatives to increase the percentage of students of diversity at all program levels. Schools of nursing are also experiencing increasing enrollment of those needing different types of accommodation, whether cognitive, physical, or behavioural. Feminist pedagogy is another alternative approach that gained popularity in Western cultures for finding the voice of the unheard. Employing students in negotiating the course environment is critical once faculty have determined some particular needs for inclusivity with an individual class or cohort. While faculty may agree that addressing diversity is essential, making the actionable in the classroom environment can be another matter.
