ABSTRACT

The four symphonic meditations that comprise this work were given their first performance on 9 February at the Concerts Siohan. They bear the following titles and subtitles:

‘Majesté du Christ demandant sa gloire à son Père’ Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee. 1 (Christ’s sacerdotal prayer, gospel according to Saint John.)

‘Alléluias sereins d’une âme qui désire le ciel’ Grant, we beseech Thee, O almighty God, that […] we, too, may spiritually dwell in heavenly places. 2 (Ascension Mass.)

‘Alléluia sur la trompette, alléluia sur la cymbale’ God is gone up with a shout, the Lord with the sound of a trumpet 3 O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph. 4 (Psalm 47. 5 )

‘Prière du Christ montant vers son Père’ I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world 6 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. 7 (Christ’s sacerdotal prayer, gospel according to Saint John.)
