ABSTRACT

This chapter demonstrates how the quality of an organisation's Building Information Modelling (BIM) processes. There are internal and external benefits for any organisation in being able to demonstrate the quality of its people, products, services, processes or systems. A measure of the extent of BIM adoption is provided by the 'BIM Maturity Diagram' developed by Mervyn Richards and Mark Bew in 2008. In terms of BIM, the background to the need for organisations to demonstrate their competence lies in the increasing number of public administrations that have followed the lead of the UK Government in requiring, or at least encouraging BIM. The role of the United Kingdom Accreditation Service is to evaluate the capability of third party conformity assessors, who, if accredited, are able to act as independent third-party 'certifiers'. Of course there are many organisations offering BIM training and certification. There is a standard under development under the mantle of the International Organization for Standardization.
