ABSTRACT

This chapter proposes a 3D annotation management system, which can better manage and view the 3D annotations marked by Product Manufacturing Information and then assesses the impact of 3D annotation search function on the product development. With the development of computer technology, mechanical manufacturing industry has gradually entered the digital development stage. The 3D CAD model is the core in the Model-Based Enterprise through defining 3D model digitally, allowing designers, analysts, manufacturing personnel, and other users to view various types of information more intuitively, understand the product, and improve the effect of product design and analysis and product reusability. The reusability degree of a CAD model strongly depends on the modeling methodology, the proper definition, and communication of the geometric design intent rather than the technology. The annotation manager primarily facilitates users to view the 3D model with annotated information and helps users better understand the product design intent, analysis information, and manufacturing information, throughout the product life cycle.
