ABSTRACT
In their usual thorough and rigorous way, Professors Alexander and Entwisle make two critical points in their chapter (chap. 5, this volume). These provide the starting point for my own comments. Ultimately I would like to address questions of intervention for children at risk—what are we intervening for and how successful can we be?
