ABSTRACT

What is assessment in teaching, and why is it important within a school environment, and for Physical Education? Assessment is a non-negotiable component of teaching and learning, and this chapter highlights the different forms assessment can take within teaching, and within a PE environment. In order to do this effectively, assessment has been divided into two clear sections; ‘Assessment for learning’ and ‘assessment of learning’. Each term is defined and explored, with examples from practical PE lessons included. Links are also made to planning to ensure assessment is built-in to every lesson delivered.
