ABSTRACT

Implantation is one of the least well understood aspects of assisted reproduction. Over the past 20 years embryologists have improved culture techniques and physicians have refined stimulation protocols and optimized transfer techniques. Still, the fate of embryos after transfer remains largely a matter of speculation and hope. ‘Implantation’ is actually a complex, choreographed dialog between the embryo and the waiting endometrium. Prostaglandins, cytokines, integrins, and growth factors are all reported to play a role.
