ABSTRACT

This book deals with the morphology of English from the point of view of the non-native learner of English, and those involved in teaching that learner and developing materials for that learner. That is, it deals with the form of words, but it does not deal with the ways in which the forms are used. For example, it will talk about the ways to form the plural of nouns in English, but will not tell you that after the phrase More than one you will need a singular form rather than a plural form. We say More than one man has been seen in the vicinity rather than *More than one men have been seen in the vicinity.
