ABSTRACT

Players have come to expect high-quality audio design, which encompasses voiceover (VO), music, and sound effects. As a producer, there are a lot of pieces to juggle when producing game audio. This chapter provides a high-level overview of things to be aware of when producing voice and music for a game. Most game studios will outsource VO and music composition. This is one case in which it is more cost-effective to hire an expert who can do a better job for less time and money. Start planning ahead for the game’s VO needs. VO is difficult to design, record, and implement at the last minute, especially if the work is being outsourced. Developing a rough timeline in advance gives the writing and design team a better understanding of when dialogue needs to be finalized. VO is an important component of bringing characters to life and immersing players in the game world.
