ABSTRACT

Safety auditing is a process by which programs are evaluated to determine their effectiveness and level of compliance. Once an individual compliance program has been created, it is important to review the information periodically to ensure that it is up to date and relevant to the hazards or personnel involved. The auditing process should be an evaluation that focuses on several different aspects of a safety program or component. These include: Application to personnel, Effectiveness of training, Degree of legal compliance and Level of employee acceptance. Safety policies and procedures that are kept on file or in policy manuals should have continuous application to current employment positions within an organization. Employees who have been trained in the use of dry-chemical fire extinguishers should be able to demonstrate their use and converse easily on the topic.
