ABSTRACT
Based on experiments conducted in stepped spillways, both the flow depths at the inception point of air entrainment and for uniform mixture flow can be developed. These expressions allow to determine the so-called drawdown length and backwater length for the black water and white water portions of stepped spillway flow, respectively. The results indicate a significant effect of specific discharge and spillway slope on all quantities involved in stepped spillway flow.
