ABSTRACT

Basic stress-strain relation is stated for isotropic and general anisotropic media, in particular for the transversely isotropic media. The equivalent body force is obtained in terms of displacement discontinuity and a stress jump. The representation theorem is derived from the equation of motion for stress and displacement discontinuity across a surface via use of the reciprocity theorem. Using various transform, the displacement field in an isotropic medium is derived in the Cartesian co-ordinate system in an infinite as well as semi-infinite medium for an arbitrary body force system. In particular, the Green’s tensor in three- and two-dimensions are derived for future use. The last section discusses general principle of fracture mechanics.
