ABSTRACT

The architectural or waterproofing drawings should also show the mud mat, drainage medium, vapor retarder, footing drains, insulation, and tieins to the ground floor exterior wall and plaza wearing surface, if applicable. To prevent such questions from being answered in the field, indicate the extent of waterproofing on small-scale sections on all subsurface building components. Use a heavy dashed line to avoid confusing the waterproofing with the outline of the waterproofed component: foundation wall, footing, slab-on-ground. Damp-proofing and vapor retarders should be distinguished from waterproofing and one another, if they all exist on the same building. Sequencing is also important where plaza waterproofing is installed before adjacent rising walls or exterior finish materials. Temporary protection of the membrane that extends under the foundation can be obtained with a protection board that is stripped before the wall is cast and left in place on the extended mud mat until the wall waterproofing is applied.
