Educators in general, but Froebelians in particular, will need to do some deep studying and learning in order to develop effective practical strategies if they are to be useful to children, their families and their educators in the future. Education systems at all levels, and everywhere in the world, tend to reflect the thinking of a society in relation to understanding how children learn. Practice was dictated by those outside the classroom, who had little knowledge or experience of teaching young children. What is needed in the training of teachers of young children more than anything else is informed discussion and informed policies, rather than actions based on belief, or theory ungrounded in practice. Then, young children will stop being described as pre-schoolers, or pre-anything. Children need to be encouraged to become generally skilled in movement.
