ABSTRACT

Paul was referred for home care follow-up by his father. Mr. Doe had heard about the program from his priest. He knew that Paul had AIDS and recognized that his illness was entering the terminal stages. In addition, Mr. Doe believed that Paul was actively using illegal drugs as well as abusing his prescribed drugs. He also believed Paul to be a danger to his wife and their two young children. Mr. Doe was desperately seeking help for Paul. Through the years, the repeated disappointments and heartaches that Paul's addiction had caused did not lessen his parents' love. However, they felt powerless to intervene effectively.
