ABSTRACT

There are many opportunities to provide for more able pupils beyond schools and particularly classrooms. Many pupils benefit from design and technology specialist summer schools, an activity week, work experience, after-school clubs, masterclasses and 24-hour Challenges. Based on the model of using a suspended timetable for one day Hassenbrook School developed a programme called Mission Impossible for 24 Year 8 pupils who had been identified with special abilities in maths, D&T and English. Pupils worked in groups and a presentation at the start of the day gave them a clear focus. The Entrepreneurship Masterclass is a one/half-day seminar that challenges students to think about starting their own business as a career, and becoming an entrepreneur, through enabling today’s entrepreneurs to inspire those of tomorrow. This is achieved by introducing the students to real entrepreneurs who share their vision, experiences and achievements.
