The availability of tools to test solutions and document impacts of design decisions enables designers to move beyond heuristics. Landscape architects or other design professionals are often not a part of these tech-based solutions. Inspired by the trend toward The Lean Start Up proposed in 2008 by Eric Ries and design thinking methodologies popularized by IDEO, the design community has embraced the iterative and human-centered design process. The lack of data is typical of permanent projects as well. Postoccupancy evaluation (POE) is a methodology for evaluating a project's effectiveness in meeting its design goals. Despite the value of POEs to strengthen landscape architecture's knowledge base, POEs are often not a part of the design process. The project demonstrates how design objects could provide meaningful anonymous information about the use of space. Landscape architects need to be discerning about the information for improving the management and design of their projects.
